Here's a bit of a shocker for C&C fans. Louis Castle, along with Brett Sperry, co-founded Westwood Stuidos way back in 1985. For those of ya new to the C&C community, Westwood Studios was the birthplace of Command & Conquer games. Louis Castle had been working at the EALA Studios since 2003, the year EA closed down Westwood Studios. It was reported on Wednesday that Louis Castle has left Electronic Arts and is joining GarageGames' InstantAction as the new CEO. You can read more about his departing HERE.

The latest map to make RADEN's Red Alert 3 featured map section is by Speeder, and is titled Mayday II. It's a large, eye-appealing, and detailed urban snow map, and is a concept remake of Red Alert 2's classics "Mayday" - 1v1 battle snow city map. This is Speeder's fourth map to make RADEN's RA3 featured section, so he's a well seasoned and veteran map maker.

Gamespot's Command & Conquer Retrospective - Part 1
Wed - Jul 8, 2009, 3:42 pm [EST] posted by Lion

Community icon

(thanks Ant) Gamespot has posted an article that looks back on all your favorite past Command & Conquer games. Part one includes Command & Conquer games up until 2001. Part two will cover games past 2001. Here's a snip from part one.
The Command & Conquer game series has been around for nearly 15 years--arguably longer if you care to trace the game's roots back to the very beginnings. The series has come to be associated with both modern strategy games and the classic real-time strategy games of yesteryear, which saw their first days with games like Herzog Zwei for the Sega Genesis and Dune II for home computers. And Dune II, a game based partially on David Lynch's motion-picture interpretation of the classic Frank Herbert novel, begat Command & Conquer. This started a chain of events that led to modern real-time strategy as we know it, including building bases, harvesting resources, climbing the tech tree, and commissioning armies. And from there, we've seen more than 10 years of Command & Conquer and all that we've come to associate with the series.
Take a trip back memory lane and read part one HERE. A video is included as well.

RA3 HOT Fix Patch Coming Soon
Sat - Jul 4, 2009, 6:00 pm [EST] posted by Lion

Red Alert3 icon

According to our glorious online community leader APOC, a hot fix patch for Red Alert 3 to address an exploit could be released as early as next week. Here's da word from APOC.
Hey guys,

So it turns out this was an unfortunate XML error in the patch, we're fully aware and are going to make every effort to fix it as soon as possible. Due to the 4th of July Holiday weekend, we are unable to acquire all the deploy resources to put a patch out this week. So it will not be fixed this week, unfortunately. Apologies for that but the timing isn't great.

This balance error is impossible for us to monitor and control as its a simple balance exploit that can be abused easily. While we can't tell everyone to please stay away from using the Assault Destroyer in such a fashion, we do politely ask that you refrain from exploiting it as such.

I will let you guys know next week what the outlook is for a hot-fix. The fix is a simple XML modification, as many of you would know, but we will need to go through all of our STEAM, MAC, etc deploy channels to get it out, which is what takes some extra time.

Apologies for this error, we'll address it as soon as possible next week.
So that would be patch V1.12 perhaps next week, and I expect that we'll be seeing a V1.13 sometime in the future as EA monitors how the balance changes in V1.11 affects the game, and garnishes feedback from players. There are still some issues with bugs as well. Gotta love da bugs!

New DEN Network Poll
Sat - Jul 4, 2009, 9:21 am [EST] posted by Lion

RADEN icon

The new poll here at the DEN asks the following question:

Should C&C4 be the ending sequel for the Command & Conquer Tiberium Universe?

I've already answered the question in CNCNZ's June Roundtable Discussion. I basically said yes, it's time to end the story...put a tail on it. IF EA does decide to make C&C4 the last sequel for the C&C Tiberium Universe, there's quite a bit of an unfinished story to tell. But it can be done.

Is it time to end the C&C Tiberium Universe series of games? Vote in our latest poll!

2POC Interviews Technique
Fri - Jul 3, 2009, 4:17 pm [EST] posted by Lion

2POC has interviewed Technique, one of the few players gunning to qualify in the Ladder Season 3 Grand Championship Tournament for both Red Alert 3 and Kane's Wrath. Here's a snip:
2POC: You are one of the few top players gunning to qualify for the season ending tournament in both Kane’s Wrath and Red Alert 3. What was your drive to take this approach for Ladder Season 3?

Technique: Well, I'm more aiming at Kane's Wrath then Red Alert 3, but my goal is to qualify 3 times on Kane's Wrath and once on Red Alert 3. Then, I'll see how far I can come in the tournament on both games (my guess is that I'll do better on Kane's Wrath then Red Alert 3, but who knows!).
Those of ya interested can read the full interview HERE.

Red Alert Article

Time for a little nostalgia as Brutal Gamer looks back at the original Red Alert. It's article #6 in their weekly 'Lookin Back' feature. Here's a snip.
Hello, and welcome to another instalment of Lookin’ Back. As a big fan of Real Time Strategy games, I’ve decided to go for probably my favourite RTS ever. I think it’s safe to say that most people have heard of the Command & Conquer series that was initially created by Westwood Studios, who also made the Dune games.

In this edition, I’m going to talk about the second game in the long running Command & Conquer franchise, the original Red Alert. It takes place in an alternative history of World War II, in which Albert Einstein developed a device that would enable time travel. He went back in time to eliminate Hitler and prevent World War II from happening. However, all this does is change the sides, as the Soviet empire tries to conquer Europe and the Allies, in this reality including Germany, are trying to prevent it.
You can read the full article HERE. I have many fond memories of playing the original Red Alert, both on and offline. For me it ranks as one of my all-time fav games.
