Smurfing in Ladder Season 3 - a No No Fri - May 22, 2009, 5:56 am [EST] posted by Lion
APOC has posted a bit of news on the official RA3 website HERE concerning the practice of 'smurfing'. Here's a sniperoo.
If you are currently competing in Ladder Season 3 for Red Alert 3 or Kane's wrath, this is a friendly reminder on a sportsmanship rule of conduct that you must read.
The concept of "smurfing" is when a user is playing with more than one account on the ranked ladder in order to gain/sustain high ranking with multiple accounts and thus prevent other users from advancing and being recognized. This inhibits fair play and is considered unsportsmanlike conduct and abuse of our online account and ranking system. This type of action can get your ladder accounts rank reset.

The Awakened Kingdom - The Initial Chaotic Strike Thu - May 14, 2009, 7:24 am [EST] posted by Lion
Derelict Studios has issued the following press release concerning a new RA3 mod in the works.
Derelict Studios is proud to announce The Awakened Kingdom - The Initial Chaotic Strike, or Taktics for short. Taktics is a Total Conversion for Red Alert 3, the latest game from Electronic Arts using the SAGE engine, known for it's moddability and flexibility.
That flexibility will be used to transform the world of Tesla Tanks, Psychic school girls and Playboy commando's into the world of Koopa's, Shy Guys and a Princess to rescue (but sadly, in Another Castle): Super Mario!
Taktics will feature three distinct sides, and maps remade in the Super Mario image. Initially, only the Eight Bit Nightmares and the Grasslands theater is shown. The Eight Bit Nightmares are based on the armies of Wart the Dreamking, from Super Mario Bros 2 for the NES. Grassland is a mix between the green levels of Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario Kart.
Formerly produced for Red Alert 2, the team decided to switch to the Red Alert 3 engine because of it's greater flexibility, and better suited atmosphere, as well as increased moddability of the engine. The team, consisting of two Portuguese students currently living in Canada, is made up of Icyson55 and Arakido.
Below is a link to their forums, which contains the initial images: Shyguys and Autobombs! The site is currently still being worked on, and will be released later this month.
This new mod was formerly a Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge total conversion, but now coming for Red Alert 3. It's far from the norm as far a mods go, and should be interesting to see how things develop.

C&C Retarded Red Cocaine Mod Released Mon - May 4, 2009, 7:18 pm [EST] posted by Lion
WARNING! This mod for Red Alert 3 is NOT for serious minded folks. In fact, it will help if your a tad touched and have a few brain cells missing. Or as one fan of this mod put it..."If goofy overwhelming power isn't your cup of tea then play mods that have a more serious tone." Having said that, the infamous TheGunrun has completed work on the 3rd generation of the Retarded mod series that brings the Retarded Mod formula that The Gunrun is well known for. That being a mix of crazy ideas, style, and music to bring together both a wild and FUN mod to play. Oversized units, over-the-top weapons, crazy new buildings and units, and a wild imagination all work together to bring one FUNtastic mod to play. So go ahead and throw caution to the wind and give this mod a try!
You can download this mod from RADEN HERE. You can also visit the mod's official website HERE to keep track of what TheGunrun is up to.

Update on RA3 Patch V1.11 Wed - Apr 29, 2009, 8:34 pm [EST] posted by Lion
APOC has posted some new info on the upcoming patch V1.11 for Red Alert 3.
In the spirit of keeping you guys updated on some of the more intricate patch-fixing things we do around here =) I thought i'd give you a brief update on a couple of critical fixes we recently made for Patch 1.11.
Related to people being able to use the mini-map to tell the enemy faction and structures, a handful of related fixes:
-Fogged structures on minimap now always show ‘apparent’ faction color rather than ‘actual’, and accordingly the mouse cursor will show the correct response. This includes keeping the last known color when a structure returns to its fogged state, rather than always reverting to neutral color.
-Player will get the correct ‘enter’ cursor for fogged apparently empty garrisons.
-Player will get the correct ‘contest’ cursor for fogged apparently enemy controlled garrisons, when current selection includes contesting infantry.
-Fixed attack command being ignored when attacking an apparently occupied enemy garrison, which is actually empty.
-House color for ghost objects now set, was always neutral (white) before.
-Structure icons on minimap no longer flicker when switching teams, i.e. captured.
And we've also address the Spy-Eva issue, we're working on some resolutions for the map transfer issue we think are the main culprits, we've fixed an issue related to a messaging-spoof hack that some of you may be aware of (but not using!), and we're working on a variety of other technical issues such as the "Zoom-Out" bug among some other things.
Just wanted to give you guys a friendly update on a few things I thought were patch cool.
-APOC

The Red Alert Mod Update Wed - Apr 29, 2009, 6:43 pm [EST] posted by Lion
The Red Alert mod is undertaking one of the most ambitious tasks in C&C modding: to recreate and improve upon an original game. In this case, it's the original Red Alert released back in 1996. The mod team is using the Red Alert 3 game engine to recreate the essence of the original title. This week they have released some new in-game screenshots and renders. The new screenshots were possible due to the release of the RA3 mod SDK recently.
Pic below shows off the Allied side with a couple pill boxes, war factory, and some of the vehicles in the game. Sure brings back some fond memories of playing the original. Head HERE to the official 'The Red Alert' website and see all of the new eYe candy!
APOC Wants Feedback for RA3 Patch V1.11 Thu - Apr 23, 2009, 4:18 pm [EST] posted by Lion
Our online community leader APOC is asking ya'll for some feedback as the dev team prepares to get the next patch (V1.11) ready for Red Alert 3. Here's da word from da man.
Hey everyone,
I am starting what I hope will be a peaceful official *quick* thread to acquire some key feedback for Patch 1.11 for Red Alert 3. Primarily I am looking for the following:
-top bugs/exploits you'd like to see fixed (do not mention Map Transfer, we already know :o) If you have bugs/exploits, please post the simple repro steps to make it happen so we can duplicate on our end. This is essential!
-absolute major balance issues, really the biggest help me help issues hurting the MP
Please do not make this thread a place to post a laundry list or essay. We want to ensure everyone has a fair chance to be heard and seen and as we look in to 1.11, I want to make sure we're addressing the top-button issues. We already have a list as we've been digressing all the information on the boards, but I want to validate it as much as possible.
Keep this thread clean. I will also make sure our dev team pays close attention to it this week and next.
Story Behind the Red Alert 3 Cinematics Sun - Apr 19, 2009, 8:41 am [EST] posted by Lion
The headline above is the title of a new article on the official Red Alert 3 website that takes you behind the scenes on the topic of the Red Alert 3 cinematics and learn about the inspiration behind the story and production from writer/producer Mical Pedriana. Here's a snip:
Mical: The creative leaders for Red Alert 3 were hugely excited about working on a RA game from the start. The immediate concern looming over our heads though was defining the basic premise and setting of the story. Unlike the Tiberium universe, we didn't have a reoccurring villain and conflict that we can immediately go back to. Having the Soviets going back in time and getting rid of Einstein seems like an obvious choice now. But when we started this process with all of our options open, it wasn't as clear. Anything can happen in the alternative history of the Red Alert universe, which creates many questions for us to answer. Should we continue from where the last Red Alert left off? Should we start over and reset the universe? How will the Empire of the Rising Sun fit into the equation?
You can read the full article HERE. A video and pictures are included in the article as well. An interesting and informative read you should check out.
Thousands of Dolphins Block Somali Pirates! Wed - Apr 15, 2009, 8:07 pm [EST] posted by Lion
(thanks havoc) A very interesting and amusing story HERE about a rather LARGE school of dolphins that blocked suspected Somali pirate ships when they were trying to attack Chinese merchant ships passing the Gulf of Aden this week. Apparently the pirates were overwhelmed by the great number of dolphins, and perhaps even feared them!
